Proudly serving Cumbria, from our practices in Aspatria and Silloth, to the regions around:
Maryport, Allonby, Kirkbride, Abbeytown, Wigton, Mealsgate, Bassenthwaite, Cockermouth and Dearham and more!
This month : January
The Staff and Management of Beacon Vets would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
We start the New Year by welcoming new Vet Pernille Jorgensen (see Vet's pages) who replaces Tony Dunne who leaves us to live with his fiancee in his hometown Dublin. Pernille graduated from Copenhagen Vet School and has been working in Norway up until now, but her English is very good, perhaps better than the Australian/Scottish versions you may already hear at Beacon.
Beacon Vets are also promoting 'BVD Free' awareness in January with a Farmer Seminar at the Aspatria Surgery on Thursday 16th January. The Seminar is supported by EBLEX and AHVLA/DEFRA as part of England's response to BVD Control, which has already been well supported in Scotland and further afar. Catering (Pizza and beers/soft drinks) provided at the Aspatria Surgery, please RSVP on 016973 20242 ahead of time to confirm numbers, all invited (farmers, farm workers, friends, family and interested parties).
Previously Movember. During November, Tony Dunne, Tom and receptionist's husbands Alan Fisher and Keith Dixon grew some horrendous facial hair in support of charity. We received plenty of generous donations from clients, and you can still visit the Movember home page to donate if you'd wish. Please feel free to join up next year and grow your own (or encourage a significant other to do so). We'll keep you updated with images of our horrendous attempts at a stylish Tom Sellick, or curly Salvidor Dali. If you would like to donate please come in to one of the surgeries or visit http://uk.movember.com/mospace/ and search for Beacon Veterinary Centre. Thanks!
Here are the final efforts of Tom, Tony, Julie Fisher's husband Alan and Susan Dixon's husband Keith - great work boys! Ok, we all look slightly (or very) suspect, but it's all for a good cause!
November was also National Dental Month, proudly supported by Beacon Vets. It's is commonly acknowledged that owners often don't know the extent of dental disease in their pets, or of the detrimental effects gingivitis and teeth-root abscessation may be having on the heart/kidneys and more.
During November you could have presented your pet from a FREE dental health check as well as samples of Dentastix and an oral care information sheet. We still have several Dentastix samples on hand - if you smile politely you'll possibly get the 'nice face discount' of 100%
It was also Pet Diabetes Month, an initiative to promote awareness of Diabetes Mellitus in dogs and cats. If you are concerned your pet is drinking or urinating excessively please visit www.mypetonline.co.uk and print off a voucher. This voucher entitled you to examination and laboratory fees if Diabetes Mellitus is considered a likely diagnosis.
Why not join our new Beacon Vets Pet Health Club.
At your pet's next booster vaccination ask us about joining the club where you can get:
1) next years Vaccination paid for
2) 12 months worth of Frontline Combo spot-on
3) 12 months worth of worm treatment (Drontal or Profender spot-on)
